20/80 facilitation

Group facilitation rooted in principles of ‘incomplete leadership’ and ‘80/20 inversion’ to flatten hierarchy and foster learning and connection.

Experience deeper connection and create enlivening solutions

Facilitation principles

80/20 inversion

In a typical corporate event, the presenter does most of the talking over plenty of material, following the convention that subject-matter experts ought dictate weightier decisions. I flip that notion, and spend around 20 percent of the time talking while space is created for the group to connect 80 percent of the time, honoring the intelligence of the group while inviting richer connection between participants.

Incomplete leadership

Incomplete leadership is a research-backed notion that assumes everyone is creative and has leadership potential. People are the content, and often already have the answers to the problems they are facing. Their creativity just needs invited to the fore. This includes involving those who are junior or on the frontlines, which can lead to breakthrough innovation.

Rolling design

Instead of being married to an agenda, I improvise. Paying close attention to what happens in each session, I observe and notice more of what might need to happen next. Instead of getting panicked whenever things do not go as planned, I design with what emerges in sessions as well as in between them. This leads to adaptive and life-centered experiences.

Some facilitation experiences

MIT xPRO

I partnered with MIT xPRO to facilitate the Technology and Innovation Acceleration Program, and serve there as the course leader. I advise global cohorts of students in designing technology solutions that can be actioned on in their organizations—working alongside faculty such as Ed Crawley, Ray Reagans, Dan Frey, and David Niño.

Rotman

I was asked to lead facilitation for the Business Design Thinking course at the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. I hosted the program alongside Angèle Beausoleil, where we guided students from diverse industries across North America to apply design thinking to existing organizational challenges.

Kindall Evolve

I am a facilitator and consultant with Kindall Evolve, where I support leaders and teams with organization development, strategy development, design thinking, and diversity, equity, and inclusion to create more inclusive and innovative workplaces.
